Rose Tea House

I have always loved girly things. As a child I imagined dressing up in fancy dresses and going to wonderful parties. A tea party was one that I often dreamed of attending.

The one thing I really wanted for my 8th birthday was a miniature tea set. I wanted to have tea parties with my ever growing collection of stuffies (I still have most of these cute little critters). My fascination for tea parties came from my love of the movie Beauty and the Beast. The lovable characters of Mrs Pots and Chip have made me always  want to go for afternoon tea but never had the chance to go until recently.

My boyfriend’s little brother is also fascinated by the Japanese culture and discovered a cute little tea shop in Vancouver with the help of some friends (yes they are Japanese girls). The three of us (my boyfriend, his brother, and I) decided to go check out the Rose Tea House on his only Saturday off.

Afternoon tea is a light meal typically eaten between 4 and 6 pm. It is custom that began in the 1840s amongst the wealthy class of Britain. Delicate savories, such as cucumber sandwiches, scones and butter alongside little cakes and pastries, was a common treat for the privileged.

High tea on the other hand, is typically consumed during the evening between 5 and 7 pm. It was a custom created for the working class and the name “high” is used to signify that it was taken later in the day. It consists of a hot dish, followed by cakes and bread.

I really enjoyed by first experience of afternoon tea and would want to come back to Rose Tea House. Everything from the food to the decor made me squeal with delight on the inside. It was all just so cute and delicious!

I hope to be back soon, if not for a date, it would make a wonderful location for a nice day out with your girl friends.
